The snow is finally melting and it is early Spring in Vermont; and so I was inspired to do this week's reading on The Herbcrafter's Tarot by Joanna Powell Colbert and Latisha Guthrie. This is a beautiful deck that weaves in the wisdom of plants and trees. I shuffled the cards and asked for a reading for someone who will read this post. I never know who it will be for until I post it. Sometimes, it is for one particular person. Other times, it is for many people. Read on, and see if this one is for you or someone that you know. Please share!
This week's reading begins with the Two of Earth/Witch Hazel. This is a card of juggling and balance. It is about keeping a lot of things up in the air at once, and being stretched between two worlds. You don't necessarily let people know that you are doing so much- you just keep it up with a smile. You are able to survive in challenging conditions; just like the Witch Hazel that flowers last in the Fall. The tree grows crooked and at odd angles; adapting to every challenge that comes its way. You are doing the same and making everything look much easier than it is.
The Nine of Water/Peach comes up next. This is a card of wishing and is quite whimsical after the resourceful Two of Earth. The Nine of Water is a card of satisfaction and asking for what you need. You are one card away from the emotional well being of the Ten of Water. Figure out what is missing for you emotionally, and then- be very clear. The Peach Tree represents a time when wishes are fulfilled- even if just for a moment. The Nine of Water is a card of gratitude and blessings. Things are about to go really well for you.
The Chariot/Cedar wraps up the trio of cards with guidance to move forward. Right now is the time to make things happen in your life. The Chariot means that you have done a lot of work and planning to get to where you are now, and the best thing that you can do now is to put it all into motion and make it happen. Cedar is a symbol of success and nobility; power and perseverance. It is time to start moving forward.
The key to this week is the Ace of Fire/Mullein. If this is your reading, you have an opportunity in front of you. It is something that will change everything. You will have to take a risk and put yourself out into the world. You may feel like you are doing a lot all at once and taking a risk- but you can't move forward if you don't take hold of the fire! Mullein is a plant of power. You can use it to make a torch (hag taper!) to light your way.
Here's what I see. If this is your reading, you have been doing a lot of work and juggling a lot for a really long time. Maybe it has not occurred to you to ask for what you want and need. You have a plan and it is time to move forward. Make a wish because the timing is very good to help you to manifest your plans. Most importantly- the idea that you have is very good. It is an Ace! Take the Ace and run with it. It will change your life for the better and help you to accomplish the goals that you have been working on for a while. If you want to make your wish in a more tangible way, consider making a Hag Taper to wish on! At the end of the warmer seasons, there are always stalks of Mullein remaining. I have heard them called the candles from a long passed gathering of nature spirits. To make a Hag taper, take a Mullein stalk and sprinkle it with herbs and wishes. Then, melt beeswax in a pan, and slowly begin to roll the stalk in the wax. Let it dry and repeat. Do this over and over until you have built up a candle. (it will take a while!) Continue to add herbs into the mix as you go. Later, you can make a wish on the Hag Taper, and burn it. Watch the wax melt and see if you see any signs of the future in the designs the wax makes. The Hag taper is a spell in and of itself- complete with Beeswax as an offering.
Have a great week, and if this is your reading- move forward! If you need a reading this week, send a message to irisxtarot@gmail.com.
