This week's reading was done on The Avian Tarot by Britney Lyn Bacheldor. It is a fantastic deck with 78 different birds to match the 78 cards. The connections between the birds and the cards are quite interesting to ponder, and I am learning about a lot of birds that I didn't know existed. I love learning something new and this deck is going to be a favorite. I shuffled the cards and asked for a reading for a person who will see this post. I never know who it is for until I post it. Sometimes it is for one person, other times it is for a lot of us! Read on and see if this one is for you.
The reading begins with The Hanged Man/African Gray. If this is your reading, you feel like you are in an 'upside down' space. Avian Grays love to hang upside down to get a different perspective. You are taking a break to look at things a bit differently. This is a card of suspension, generally indicating a voluntary pause to look at life in an 'outside the box' way. There are other times when it is not you who is upside down, but the world around you- and you are the only one who is right side up! You can sense that you are at a crossroads and that there is a change coming up. You are hanging upside down waiting to see what the change will be, seeing it from all angles.
Strength/Ibis appears next asking you to look at your powers and skills. This is a card of resiliency and the range of power and force. What are your strengths? How can you use your skill to help the world around you? If this is your reading, you hold a lot of power that you have to find a way to work with and use. This is a card of being strong and sure- it is about pushing through and finding a way. Follow your gut feelings right now and don't just rely on what you see- focus on how you feel. Of interest is the Ibis uses an adaptation of sensitive nerve endings in his beak to 'feel' the environment so that he doesn't only have to rely on sight. Follow your feelings and intuition.
The Wheel of Fortune/Vulture is next showing the powers of time, fate and regeneration. The Wheel you are on is spinning fast, and it is hard to know which end is up. There is a constant movement to the Wheel of Fortune, and all that grows will eventually be destroyed. It is just how the Wheel spins. There are larger forces at work, and you may feel tossed about by the current. As a symbol for the Wheel, the Vulture has a highly acidic stomach that can neutralize diseases such as anthrax, botulism, and rabies. Anything that becomes toxic can be destroyed by the regenerative forces of Fate.
The key to this reading is the King of Cups/Albatross. It is the only Minor arcana card in the reading, which means that all of the other cards represent major forces of fate and power. The King of Cups is from the Minor arcana; the deck of events. It shows what you have to do. This is a card that shows a mastery of emotions. The King of Cups balances on rocky ground and finds a way to manage feelings well and stay afloat in the suit of water. Make sure that you are emotionally balanced and clear. Watch your sensitivities and do your best to stay afloat. The Albatross can go for years without touching the earth. They spend time in the sky or resting on the surface of the water. They manage well by wisdom, staying in balance, and managing water and air well. With the King of Cups, the ground underneath you is not solid. And so, you have to manage despite that and become emotionally solid and secure.
Here's what I see. If this is your reading, you are feeling spun by the powers of fate and you don't know what to do. You have been sitting back and paying attention; not moving one way or the other. You don't know which direction is best, and you feel like there are larger forces in charge of the answer to that question. This reading asks you to find your strength and power. How will you use your particular skills and talents to contribute to the whole? As you are suspended as the Hanged Man, this is a good thing to ponder. Where do your particular skills weave into the larger situation that you are in right now? The Wheel shows that you are in a life shifting time when the powers of fate have taken over. There is a larger pattern that is being woven right now, and you have to find your place in it. It is hard to know what will happen when you are spinning on a wheel. The only certainty is change. If you are going up, you will be coming down. If you have been down, you will be coming back up. The whole situation is dizzying and confusing. The only thing that you can do is to manage your emotions. You are going to need stamina to make it through challenging waters, and you can't react to everything all at once. It is important that you keep yourself in a place of balance and that you prioritize your wellness so that you are strong. Then, find your power and skill and weave it into the web of fate. Stay calm and balanced even as the Wheel spins and the world feels upside down. Focus on your power and prioritize the time that you need to make sure that you are emotionally well.
