For this week's reading, I pulled out an old deck that I haven't worked with in a while. The Wildwood Tarot is its own world. It is hard to compare it to traditional Tarot- it just will not fit into a box. I adore this deck- it's like an old friend. I shuffled the cards and asked for a message for someone who will read this post. I never know who the reading will be for until it is posted, read on and see if it's for you!
The reading begins with the Ancestor (traditionally, the Hierophant). This card asks you to look at your spiritual practices and traditions. If this is your reading, you are pondering big things right now. You are wondering about the larger picture and where you fit in. You are looking for peace, and practices to accomplish that. You are considering spiritual paths and wondering what works for you. What is sure is that something is trying to get your attention. Perhaps it is an ancestor, spirit, or teacher. There are ways that can help you right now.
The Five of Vessels is known as Ecstasy, but in traditional Tarot is known as a card of sadness, mourning and loss. You are seeking comfort in tradition because there is something hard that you are processing. You have lost something, and you are having a hard time moving on from this place. You feel stuck and like you don't want to engage with the world around you. It can be so hard when there is something that you lose. But does this mean that you should not engage or follow your passion? I don't believe that it does. At some point, the dancer in this card will kick over the vessels unless she simply doesn't dance at all. That is why this card has the keyword of Ecstasy- do you lose yourself in the dance or stay within the lines and take no risks to avoid pain? You are hurting because you are experiencing life and love; and connected to that is loss.
The Six of Vessels comes up next, which is the card that sequentially comes after the experience of the V of Vessels in the Tarot deck. This is a card of moving on from the place of upset that you have been in. It is about crossing the bridge into the next stage of your life. You leave the past behind and move ahead into the future- even if you look back over your shoulder a few times with feelings of nostalgia for the past. With this card, there is often a ritual or rite of passage that can help you to move on and mark the time and transition as sacred.
The Queen of Stones/Bear is the key to this reading. Right now, the most important thing is for you to feel grounded and connected to the earth. If you have to be the Bear defending your territory to do this, so be it. The key is to use your voice and power to find a place of peace and connectedness on the earth. You have to feel like you can trust where you are and where you are heading.
Here's what I see. If this is your reading, you are struggling through an emotional challenge that has left you feeling stuck and like you do not know what to do. Working with some personal traditions and spiritual ways may help you feel more rooted to the earth. You have felt like you don't know what to expect, and the traditions of the Ancestor may help you to find your path again. First, you have to walk across the bridge into the future. Leave the past behind; looking back with nostalgia on the positive and leaving behind what is not useful or helpful to you anymore. The most important thing right now is for you to find the ground under your feet again. Get into some basic meditation practices and focus on the present. So much of you is in the past and the future that you may be missing what is right in front of you. Basic traditions and spiritual connection will help you over the bridge.
