This week's reading was done on The Wayfarer Tarot, a deck that I co-created with Margaret Shipman. This deck solved all of my Tarot teaching challenges, and makes Tarot accessible to communicate with and understand. The cards speak very clearly in readings, leaving little room for doubt or confusion. It's one of my favorite decks to teach Tarot on. I shuffled the cards, and asked for a reading for a person that will see/read this post. For the person that this is for- it's been a challenging time period, and everything feels upended. You are moving between action and then- needing silence and space. Read on - there may be an opportunity up ahead for you.
The reading begins with The Tower. Everything has fallen apart. What you thought was true turns out to be built up on an unstable foundation. It may be recent, or it may be some time ago, but it changed all that you thought you knew about reality. If this is your reading, you are still falling from the Tower and have not gotten over the shock of what happened. With the Tower- you just didn't see it coming.
Now, you are in a different space. Sometimes, you are the Magician. Full of willpower and plans and ideas. The Magician is the card of using your wit to get around obstacles, and using sheer willpower and cunning to make things happen in your life. This is a very active card, showing you in motion and trying to accomplish your goals. But that's not always how it is.
The Hermit comes up next showing you as a bit of a lone Wolf. You need a lot of space, and other people do not find you easy to understand. There are times that you just have to get away from everything and everyone. You feel like you need quiet and time to reflect on your life. You want to shut out the outside world to look inside instead.
The key to this week is the Ace of Earth/Pentacles. While you are going back and forth between wanting to engage with life or disconnect from everything- there is an opportunity that is right in front of you. There is something that you should Do. The Ace of Earth shows an opportunity that manifests and changes your life for the better. It is the first minor arcana card in the reading, which means- everything in your life feels really big right now. You have to return to earth- there is an opportunity that I wouldn't let pass you by.
Here's what I see. If this is your reading then everything fell apart. Down became up, black became white- you feel like everything in your life scattered, and you have been trying to find the pieces. There are days that you feel like the Magician- you want to do everything all at once. You are full of life, optimism and power on those days. On other days, you want to climb into a cave with a lantern and refuse to come out again. You feel like there is no in between right now. You either want to engage the world- or escape it. But here's the thing. While you are struggling through this, there is an opportunity for you. You have to come back down to earth and stop looking at the big things for just one second. There is something that you can take and grow- an opportunity that you can really work with. It's important to touch the earth for a moment to make sure that you are not missing something that is right in front of your face. You are focusing on the past, but there is a new thread to follow.
